Sammy has a red toy truck. It is his favourite toy. He drives it along the carpet, making engine sounds. Vroom, vroom! Today his cousin Amara is coming to visit.
Amara arrives and sees the truck. She picks it up and starts to play with it. Sammy feels upset. That is HIS truck! It is okay to feel upset when someone takes something important to us. He wants to grab it back right away.
Mom kneels down. She asks Sammy, 'How do you think Amara feels right now?' Sammy looks at Amara. She looks excited and happy. She thinks the truck is cool!
Mom: "How do you think Amara feels, Sammy?"
Sammy: "She looks... excited. She likes the truck too."
Mom has an idea: taking turns! Amara plays with the truck for five minutes, then Sammy gets a turn. They use a timer so it is fair. Sammy waits patiently for his turn.
Mom: "How about taking turns? Five minutes each. I'll set a timer!"
Something fun happens! Sammy and Amara start playing with the truck together. They build roads with cushions and tunnels with boxes. Playing together is even more fun than playing alone!
Amara: "Let's make a tunnel! Drive the truck through!"
Sammy: "Great idea! Vroom, vroom!"
It is time for Amara to go home. She hugs Sammy and says, 'Thanks for sharing your truck, Sammy!' Sammy feels warm and happy inside. Sharing was hard at first, but it made today more fun. It is also okay to have some special things that are just for us.
Amara: "Thanks for sharing, Sammy! That was the best!"
Sammy: "It was fun! Come and play again soon!"
