Sammy looked at his hands. He had two hands, just like everyone else. But what are hands really for?
Hands are for helping! Sammy helps Mom carry dishes. He feels proud when he helps.
Mom: "Thank you for helping, Sammy!"
Hands are for waving hello! When Sammy sees his friend at the park, he waves. His friend waves back!
Sammy: "Hi, friend!"
Hands can give gentle pats. When Sammy's classmate feels sad, Sammy pats their back softly. This helps them feel better.
Sammy: "It's okay. I'm here."
Sometimes Sammy feels really mad. It is okay to feel mad — everyone feels mad sometimes. His hands might want to hit. But hitting can hurt people's bodies.
When Sammy feels mad, he can try taking a deep breath. He might choose to squeeze a pillow. He can ask for help. There are many things he can try instead of hitting.
Sammy's hands can help, wave, hug, and be gentle. When Sammy uses his hands kindly, he might feel proud inside!
Sammy: "My hands do good things!"
